Week 1: Reference Approval Timeframe

I am spending a lot of time planning this project because I know that a lot of planning can go a long way in this industry. Obviously things won’t always go according to, but it gives me a valuable time frame.

So this falls 3d scene is going to be a modern Skyhouse, one inspired from the movie Oblivion. Imagine the seclusion of a cabin with the comfort and style of a modern home. Entirely self sufficient, its a beautiful blend of utility and sleekness that has always inspired me.

For workflow, I am modeling in Maya, sculpting in Zbrush, texturing in Substance Designer/Painter, and finally importing into Unreal Engine 4. Any landscaping will be done with world machine. I am going for a modular design of both the exterior and interior. That way it limits the amount of work I have to do to make unique assets. Total asset amount will probably be around 30-35. The full list will be shown later in this post.

As far as lighting goes, I will be going with either a sunset or sunrise, with heavy cloud cover. One of the challenges I face is making great looking clouds, if i want to do a particle based system for that or a just layer animated planes in the distance. It also needs to be well optimized, so there will be possible LODS. Skyhouse Lighting
